Ice hockey

St gervais has its own successful ice hockey team. Usually plays at night time midweek. Contact the tourist board for fixtures.

Excursion on the Mont Blanc tram.

The highest train in france awaits you for a wonderful trip to the foot of mont blanc. In winter it takes you to the bellevue plateau [1800m] at the heart of an exceptional panorama. Departs la fayet and st gervais.

Shopping and towns of interest

  • Megeve. Only 20 minutes from st gervais. Beautiful and quality. Designer shops and people watching.
  • Albertville. Further south. Traditional French town. However, the better part is the raised walled medeieval town before you get there.
  • Annecy. With its huge lake and narrow streets. You must visit at sometime in your life. The sooner the better.

Tourist information

www.st-gervais.net located on the exit ring road in st gervais. Very helpful with some english spoken. Lots of brochures. E- mail for an up to date brochure to be sent to your home before you depart.

Local markets

St Gervais: thursday mornings (8.30-12ish) all year in the main town square. Superb local produce-cheeses, hams, saucisson (dried sausage), fantastic herb basted rotisserie chickens, jewellery, fruit, veg, gifts etc.  Definitely worth visiting.

Sallanches: from La Fayet 5 miles on the non toll a road towards geneva or junction 20 off the A40. Beautiful market town with central river, more shops than St. Gervais. Saturday morning large market.  Look out for a lady in a shed making wonderful crepes.
